The mooring pontoon (1) is fitted with a winch (2) with a chain or cable (3) connected to a float (4) after passing round a pulley on a dead weight block (5) on the sea bed. When the water level rises the pontoon rises with it, drawing the float down towards the dead weight block. When the water level falls the float rises and takes up the slack on the chain or cable, keeping it under tension.
