The plasma reactor (5) may have a square cross- section and contains a monolithic sintered ceramic body (10) with an array of large (11) and small (12) channels. The exhaust gas flows through a first set (13) of large generally rectangular-section channels with thin vertical and horizontal walls. Thickened portions in the horizontal walls contain a second set of channels (14) filled with electrical conductors (15) which may be charged to a high voltage to generate a plasma in the second set of channels. the conductors may be made of a ceramic paste containing particles of silver. A green ceramic body may be molded to shape and then sintered.
