A liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate (20), a second substrate (40), and a liquid crystal layer (50) sandwiched between the first and the second substrates (20, 40). The first substrate (20) has a first area (A) through which a light is allowed to pass and a second area (B) at which a light is reflected. A reflection electrode (25) is formed on the second area (B) and a transmission electrode (26) is formed in the first area (A). The reflection electrode (25) partially overlaps the transmission electrode (26).
