1,233,591. Capacitors. WESTERN ELECTRIC CO. Inc. 9 May, 1968 [10 May, 1967], No. 21986/68. Heading H1M. A wound capacitor comprises a pair of laterally spaced electrode foils 15 the outer longitudinal edges of which extend beyond the edges of dielectric strips 17, 19 and, insulated from foils 15 by the dielectric strips, a row of electrodes 20 transverse to electrodes 15 and spaced apart a distance greater than their width, electrodes 20 being confined within the bounds of the dielectric strips. As winding proceeds, a plurality of pairs of series-connected small capacitors are brought into play and the arrangement aids monitoring the winding process. Further, if the capacitance is too high it may be lowered by cutting into the roll to sever some of electrodes 20 (Fig. 5, not shown) and the cut may be filled with insulating material. Electrodes 15 may be tin or tin alloy foils; electrodes 20 are preferably formed by metallizing. The extending foil edges are spinswaged to form terminals.
