<p>Water-dilutable coating compsn. for electrophoresis coating comprises (a) water, (b) opt. water-compatible solvents, (c) opt. pigments and/or organic diluents and/or water-insoluble minerals, and (d) soaps of condensn. prods. of non-hydroxylated (semi-)drying fatty acids esters or mixed esters of these fatty acids and resinic acids with alpha,beta-ethylenically unsatd. dicarboxylic acids, or when they exist, their anhydrides, the soaps being soluble in the above solvents. According to the improvement (d) comprises 10-25(15-20) wt.% of dienophile cpds. and 75-90 (80-85) wt.% of non-hydroxylated (semi)drying fatty acids esters or a mixed ester of such an acid and a resinic acid. Further, (d) undergoes during its prepn. or subsequently a polymsn. such that its viscosity is 1.5-10 times higher than its initial viscosity, measured as a 60% soln. in xylene, the reference viscosity being that of a completely condensed prod, formed at 200 deg.C and measured as 60% soln. in xylene. Formation of the soaps is effected by means of water-soluble N-contg. bases, alkali (ne earth) hydroxides or acid salts whose dissociation constant as less than that of (d), provided that they form with the latter water-soluble prods. opt. in presence of water-compatible solvents. The prods. are stable both when conc. or diluted. The binder (d) has excellent throwing power. Films of the prod. have excellent characteristics during storing and the coatings obtd. have uniformity, good adhesion, hardness, elasticity and corrosion resistance.</p> |
