1,193,329. Hydraulic pump-turbines, VEREINIGTE OSTERREICHISCHE EISEN-und STAHLWERKE A.G. Dec.4, 1967 [Dec. 15, 1966], No.55121/67. Heading F1T. A hydraulic machine which can be used alternately as a pump or as a turbine has a Francis type rotor with blades each consisting of a non-adjustable part 4 and an adjustable part 5 pivotable about an axis 6 inclined at an angle of 30 to 60 degrees to the rotor axis 7. Depending upon whether the machine is to be operated in turbine or pump mode, the adjustable blade parts 5 are moved manually or automatically in either direction from the basic position shown in full lines in Fig. 2 to a broken line position which does not normally exceed 10 degrees from the basic. However to prevent runaway or for starting the machine prior to pumping operation, the parts 5 are movable into a position 'S' in which the flow passages between the blades are completely closed. The blade pivot pins 8, 9 are mounted in bearings in the rotor shrouds 2, 3 respectively, the outer bearings 10 being of plastics material. Fixed or adjustable stator vanes 1 are provided. |
