A scheme by which a data storage device may present a rapid write ability. Upon receiving a write command, the data storage device enters the data into a cache. Thereafter, the storage device determines whether the write command meets criteria for execution of the fast disc write method. If so, the storage device waits until a trigger event, whereupon the storage device moves the data from the cache to a first area on the recording medium. The first area is chosen so as to be an area that is susceptible of relatively higher recording rates than a second area of the recording medium. After having moved the data from the cache to the first area, the storage device waits for the occurrence of a second trigger event. Upon occurrence of the second trigger event, the data is moved from the first area to its ultimate destination on the second area.
