A locking device with a holding device for a cover of a motor vehicle trunk is movable in a longitudinal guide and can be held in form-closed manner there by a movable projection. The projection is movable by operating means and is e.g. rotatable about a fulcrum. The operating means comprise an electromotive drive and a gear, which can be a non-self-locking gear.
