A rotatable surface aerator with radial blades 9 has a separately driven axial impeller 1 inthe liquid intake; only the impeller need be immersed enabling the apparatus to operate efficiently through a wide range of liquid levels. The blades have an upper cover 10 and a lower cover 11, both blades and lower-cover being hollow and defining air passages. Air enters the blades through apertures 17 and the liquid passages 18 between them through apertures 13 in the upper cover, air passes from the blades to the liquid directly through apertures 13', 16, and from the blades into the hollow lower cover 11 through apertures 14 and thence into the bottom of the liquid passages 18 through apertures 13". Baffles 12, 12' 12" create a reduction in pressure at the respective apertures 13, 13', 13". |
