A motor mounted electromagnetic clutch or clutch-brake assembly consists of standard clutch (C1) and brake (B) units bolted in sucession on the mounting flange 24, 25 of a standard electric drive motor 23. In the clutch-brake assembly shown, the casing 31 and stationary magnet unit 40 of the clutch are secured to the motor flange 25 by a series of bolts 35, and the annular polepiece 44 is mounted on a hub 53 secured to the end of the motor drive shaft 26 by a key 27 and screw 55. The casing 84 of the brake-unit in turn is secured to the clutch casing 31 by a further series of bolts 112, the clutch and brake armature discs 56, 95 which incorporate wear adjusters (105, Figs. 3 and 4, not shown) being splined to a sleeve 100 bolted to the output shaft 90. The brake casing is provided with cooling air openings 156 which are fitted with liquid-deflecting lips 158. In the case of a clutch assembly the brake magnet unit 91 and armature disc 95 are omitted, Fig. 8 (not shown). The complete assembly may be detachably secured to an angle mounting bracket (E, Fig. 1, not shown). |
