PURPOSE: A device and method for protecting a memory is provided to minimize a loss of data of a memory stick and a loss of a power by supplying a power only when the memory stick stored in a digital device downloads data. CONSTITUTION: It is checked whether a memory stick in a digital device is sensed(300). In the case that a memory stick in a digital device is sensed, it is judged whether data in the memory stick are downloaded in a buffer in a memory stick control unit(301). A user interface control unit receives a download key being inputted by a user and transmits the download key to a system control unit, and the system control unit operates a memory stick protection unit. In the case that data in the memory stick are downloaded in the buffer in a memory stick control unit, a protection switching unit is turned on, a power is supplied to the memory stick, and data in the memory stick are downloaded to a buffer of the memory stick control unit(302). In the case that the data in the memory stick are completely downloaded to the buffer in the memory stick control unit, the protection switching unit is turned off, and a power supply to the memory stick is blocked(303,304).
