A press-tool for forcing eyelets, bushes, rivets &c. 86 into sheet material 87 comprises a punch 3 reciprocable in a housing 8 which has an aperture in its wall through which the eyelets &c. are fed from a shoot by a feed member arranged to be moved out of the aperture by engagement with the punch during the operative stroke of the punch. The feed member may be a pawl 12 pivotally mounted in the housing and urged into the aperture by a spring 15. The eyelets are fed by gravity down the shoot (62), Fig. 2 (not shown), from a feeding bowl, e.g. a vibrating-bowl feeder. The lower end (47) of the shoot is rigidly connected to the housing and is pivoted to the rest of the shoot by a pivot pin (50). In operation an eyelet &c. 86 is fed into the bore by the pawl and held in the bore by a spring 81 mounted in the wall. The punch and housing descend together until the bottom of the housing abuts the sheet whereupon the punch forces the eyelet into the sheet. The shoulder 91 on the punch retracts the pawl during the descent and the shoulder 94 hits the shoulder 95 to press the teeth 89 on the bottom of the housing into the sheet to stake the eyelet. The eyelets &c. may be forced into preformed holes or they may be self-piercing inserts which co-operate with the die 85 to remove a piece of sheet material. |
