PURPOSE: An apparatus for measuring abrasion in a welding tip and a control method thereof are provided to measure and compensate for abrasion in the welding tip by using a non-contact sensor and a robot. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for measuring abrasion in a welding tip(3) includes a robot(7), a robot controller and a non-contact sensor(15). A welding gun(1) having the welding tip(3) is installed at a front portion of an arm(5) of the welding gun(1). The non-contact sensor(15) is fixed at one side of a working chamber. The welding tip(3) includes a fixing tip(13) and a moving tip(11) and is attached to one end of the arm(5) of the robot(7). A welding condition, such as welding current, is set in the welding gun(1) by means of a welding device. The non-contact sensor(15) has a light emitting section(21) and a light receiving section(25) for receiving light radiated from the light emitting section(21).
