The invention relates to a ring (10) for use in anastomosis, a method and apparatus for installing the ring (10) at an incision or other orifice in a vessel of other organ, and a method for performing anastomosis. The ring has a central ring portion from which malleable tines (12) extend. Each tine (12) preferably has a weak section (13) at which it preferentially folds or buckles when subjected to a bending force. Each tine (12) can grab and evert tissue around the orifice as it is moved from an initial to final configuration. To install the ring (10), the tines (12) are advanced against the anvil to cause them to grab the tissue around the orifice and curl radially. The anvil is then retracted to fold the tines (12) so their curled ends move radially outward. The folding, curling, and optional but preferred final bending of the tines everts tissue near the orifice edges to expose the organ's intima. |
