PURPOSE: A mobile type communication equipment having a protection structure of a zoom lens assembly and a method for controlling close of a zoom lens assembly are provided to increase the reliability of a mobile type communication equipment by preventing damage of an optical zoom lens assembly. CONSTITUTION: A control unit receives a folder close switch signal. It is judged whether the inputted signal is a close signal. If the inputted signal is the close signal, a zoom driving motor(9) is driven to operate an optical zoom lens assembly in a closed state. If the inputted signal is not the close signal, the control unit executes a control operation step before the folder close switch signal is inputted. The zoom driving motor(9) is driven to operate the optical zoom lens assembly in a closed state. A folder opening and closing motor is controlled to close a folder.
