PURPOSE: A method for operating a compressor of an air conditioner is provided to stably control indoor temperature and improve indoor coziness by sensing indoor unit after turning off the compressor and determining whether a plurality of the compressors are selectively or fully operated depending on whether difference between desired temperature set by a user and the current indoor temperature is lower or higher than fixed range to accurately determining heating and cooling load for a room. CONSTITUTION: A method includes the steps of: a first step(S2) fully operating a plurality of compressors until indoor temperature reaches desired temperature; a second step(S3) turning off a plurality of the compressors after the indoor temperature reaches the desired temperature; a third step(S4) sensing indoor temperature; and a fourth step(S5,S6,S7) selectively or fully operating a plurality of the compressors depending on difference between the indoor temperature sensed in the third step and the desired temperature.
