A machine tool comprises a horizontally disposed work-holding spindle 1, a bed 3 having a portion 4 of wedge-shaped cross-section, slides 7 and 8 being provided on the wedge sides 5 and 6, respectively, for the location of respective saddles 9 and 10, the wedge-shaped section being disposed in a plane transversely to the axis of the spindle and both surfaces of the wedge lying on one side of a vertical plane containing the spindle axis. The surfaces of wedge portion are disposed one on each side of a horizontal plane passing through the axis of the spindle, the upper surface of which is inclined at not more than 45 degrees to the horizontal plane. There may also be provided in the apex of the wedge portion a groove serving as a common slide portion for both the saddles.</p> |
