PURPOSE: A system for selectively receiving a short message and a method therefor are provided to selectively receive only the short message corresponding to the request of a subscriber of a mobile terminal. CONSTITUTION: If a short message is received in an SMSC(Short Message Service Center)(16), the SMSC(16) transmits the received short message to a data processing server(18) before transmitting the short message to a wired or wireless Internet network(14) or an MSC(Mobile Switching Center)(24). The data processing server(18) receives reception or reject information of the short message with respect to a corresponding mobile terminal(10) from a DB server(20), processes received reception or reject information, and transmits the processed result to the SMSC(16). The SMSC(16) transmits the short message or rejects the transmission of the short message according to the processed result.
