DEVICE FOR DETECTING OVERHEATED TIRES

A tire monitoring device includes a sensor (20) adapted to detect airborne molecules generated when tire components are overheated. The sensor may be positioned in a reader (10) that is proximate the exterior of the tire. The sensor may also be exposed to the air inside the pressurized tire chamber. T he sensor may be tuned to detect any of a variety of molecules or components th at are generated when tire materials are overheated.
