A press expels juice from fruit or vegetables to a chamber (2) with a juice chamber (7) around a filter element which retains solids and releases fluid. The filter element is a pipe (1) around a rotating helix (4) on a drive shaft (3) and powered by a motor (5). The helix drives pulped fruit or vegetable through the pipe (2). The pipe (1) inner diameter is greater than the helix (4) outer diameter, preventing contact between the two. Also claimed is a method of operation which adapts to the characteristics of the fruit or vegetable pulp in question.
