TV viewing conditions are automatically optimised according to a type of TV program. Automatic control apparatus (Figure 1) includes a memory storing information on a TV viewing condition in a corresponding area of a control mode table. A controller determines a program type from additional information received as part of a television signal (202), information on TV viewing conditions which corresponds to the type of the current program is read (203) from the memory, and TV viewing conditions are set (206) according to the information read from the memory. Changing viewing conditions results in a change in video characteristics including resolution, colour, brightness, and contrast tuning points. Audio changes relate to mono, stereo, surround, echo, Dolby, or other characteristics or signal processing, along with information on audio equalizer tuning points.
|
