PURPOSE: A system and a method for inputting Hangul in a portable phone are provided to easily input letters by applying a keypad having 15 key input buttons to the input of Hangul. CONSTITUTION: A shift input button(200) inputs a control signal to the terminal if it is pushed. The first key input button(201), to which 'giyeok' and 'a' are allocated, inputs 'giyeok' to the terminal if the user pushes it once, inputs 'ssanggiyeok' if it is pushed two times, and inputs 'a' if the user pushes it at the same time with the shift input button(200) once. The second key input button(202), to which 'nieun' and 'ya' are allocated, inputs 'nieun' to the terminal if the user pushes it once, inputs 'ya' if the user pushes it at the same time with the shift input button(200) once, and inputs 'nieun' as a final consonant if the user pushes it at the same time with the shift input button(200) two times. The third key input button(203), to which 'digeut' and 'eo' are allocated, inputs 'digeut' to the terminal if the user pushes it once, inputs 'ssangdigeut' if it is pushed two times, and inputs 'eo' if the user pushes it at the same time with the shift input button(200) once.
