PURPOSE: A panel for color cathode ray tubes is provided to achieve improved contrast, vacuum intensity and lowered brightness uniformity by using glass of low light transmissivity. CONSTITUTION: A color cathode ray tube includes a panel having a screen inside the panel, a funnel mounted on a rear side of the panel, an electron gun for radiation of electron beams, which is inserted into a neck of the funnel, and shadow mask having a plurality of through-holes and arranged regular spacing inside the panel. A panel has a value from 40% to 75% of light transmissivity. In comparison with central part thickness(To) of a panel, the thickness of the diagonal endpoint(Td), the major axis endpoint(Tx), and the minor axis endpoint(Ty) of panel are 1.4¯1.9, 1.4¯1.6, and 1.6¯1.8 respectively.
