A hand lighter has a fuel container 1, a fuel valve including an operating lever 6b, a source of ignition including a flint 10, a sparking wheel 9, and at least one side wheel 12 or 13 rotatably mounted with respect to the spark wheel 9; whereby the sparking wheel 9 is frictionally driven by the side wheel 12 or 13. The side wheel may have an annular frictional surface, and the sparking wheel may have a circumferential friction surface. The lighter may have at least two side wheels 12 & 13, one located on each side of the sparking wheel. The sparking wheel may be configured so that no contact between it and the user's finger or thumb will occur in use. |
