[Also in Division G2] Compounds of the formula wherein n is 2, R is a tetravalent 1 : 4 : 5 : 8- or 2 : 3 : 6 : 7-naphthalene, 1 : 2 : 4 5-benzene or 3: 4: 9: 10-perylene radical and R<SP>1</SP> is a 3-nortricyclyl, dicyclopentenyl, cyclohexen-3- ylmethyl, 1-methyl-cyclohexen-3-ylmethyl, a mixture of 3-methyl- and 4-methyl-cyclohexen- 3-ylmethyl, dihydropyranylmethyl or penten-3- yl radical are made by reacting naphthalene- 1: 4: 5: 8-tetracarboxylic dianhydride, naphthalene - 2 : 3 : 6 : 7 - tetracarboxylic dianhydride, pyromellitic anhydride or perylene-3 : 4: 9 : 10-tetracarboxylic dianhydride with the appropriate amine. Compounds of the formulae are made by allowing the appropriate dianhydride and 3-nortricyclylamine to stand at room temperature. The compound of the formula is made by reacting 3-nortricyclylamine with a crude pyromellitic acid dibutyl ester dichloride prepared by reacting pyromellitic acid dibutyl ester, itself obtained from pyromellitic dianhydride and butanol, with phosphorus oxychloride and phosphorus pentachloride. |
