A vehicle impact absorption type steering column device adapted to move the steering column forwardly of the vehicle with respect to a vehicle-body-side member upon secondary collision has a metal ring fitted on the outer peripheral surface of the steering column, which metal ring is adapted to lock the vehicle-body-side member upon secondary collision and absorb the impact energy while friction-sliding with respect to the steering column moving forwardly of the vehicle.
