According to the invention, the process consists in subjecting a polyacrylonitrile cable to an ignifugation thermal treatment in continuous flow, in an air environment, in two stages, in three temperature steps, and passing it through a surface treating bath which contains an aqueous solution of polyacryle derivative, partially cross-linked, or a dressing agent, squeezing air-heating, avivating, drying, creasing, tearing in tops or cutting.
