1-Amino-1-cyanamido-2,2-dicyanoethylene, sodium salt is prepared by a proces s which comprises reacting malononitrile with sodium dicyanamide at an elevated temperature and in the presence of an aprotic, dipolar solvent. The subject compound is usef ul as an intermediate to prepare substituted pyrimidines.
