Dowels are distributed over the wall or ceiling surface so that several are provided for each panel (10), then adhesive is applied to the dowel heads (7) and optionally to the wall or ceiling, and then the panel is pressed against the wall or ceiling. An independent claim is also included for the dowel, which has a splay region adjacent to a dowel head with arms protruding from it in a star pattern.
