SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR OPERATING AN INFUSION PUMP

A method for operating an infusion pump (4) is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of providing a pumping apparatus (22), the pumping apparatus (22) having an infusion pump (4) and a processor (102) operably coupled to the pumping apparatus (22). The method further comprises the step of providing a memory (104) operably coupled to the processor (102). The memory (104) comprises a library (30) of selectable user interface screens stored in the memory (104). The library (30) may include at least one of a power-up sub-library (300), a syringe selection sub-library (400), a pre-programming sub-library (500), an infusion sub-library (900), a history sub-library (600), a device options sub-library (700), and an advanced set-up sub-library (800). The method further includes the step of providing an operator interface (20) operably connected to the processor (102) and comprising a touch screen (6). The operator interface (20) receives input commands (14), displays input command prompts, and transmits at least input commands (14) to the processor (102). The method also comprises the steps of: receiving an input transmission of a selected sub-library; providing at least one input prompt corresponding to the selected sub-library; receiving an input transmission of a selected input command (14) from the touch screen (6); transmitting the selected input command (14) to the processor (102); converting the selected input command (14) into an output command (16); and, transmitting the ouput command (16) to the pumping apparatus (22).
