ARTEMISIA ASIATICA EXTRACT AS AGENT FOR TREATMENT OF INFLAMMATORY BOWEL DISEASE

PURPOSE: A pharmaceutical composition including an Artemisia asiatica extract as an effective component is provided. The Artemisia asiatica extract contains eupatilin and jaceosidin in high concentrations and the pharmaceutical composition containing the Artemisia asiatica extract is useful as an agent for treating human inflammatory bowel disease(IBD) such as ulcerative colitis or crohns disease. CONSTITUTION: The pharmaceutical composition for treatment of human inflammatory bowel disease contains an Artemisia asiatica extract including eupatilin and jaceosidin in high concentrations. The Artemisia asiatica extract is prepared by extracting leaves of Artemisia asiatica in water or a mixed liquid(1 to 99.9%) of water and ethanol, concentrating and drying it. For an example, 100g Artemisia asiatica leaf is immersed in 70% ethanol at room temperature for 24h two times, concentrated under reduced pressure and freeze-dried to give 16.2g solids containing 0.412% by weight of eupatilin and 0.277% by weight of jaceosidin.
