PURPOSE: A method for controlling operation of a multi type air conditioner is provided to allow enough air-conditioning efficiency for each of rooms by efficiently corresponding with change of length and diameter of a connecting tube. CONSTITUTION: A method includes a cooling operation pattern in which refrigerant circulates in a compressor, an outdoor heat exchanger and indoor heat exchangers successively to cool down rooms; a heating operation pattern in which refrigerant circulates in the compressor, the indoor heat exchangers and the outdoor heat exchanger successively to heat the rooms; and a tube load corresponding pattern comparing compressor side pressure and each of indoor heat exchanger side pressure, detecting difference of pressure, respectively, and increasing displacement of the compressor if at least one of the difference exceeds set difference of pressure to optimally correspond with change of length and diameter of a connecting tube. The tube load corresponding pattern includes a step(S10) sensing the compressor side pressure and each of the indoor heat exchanger side pressure, and comparing each of the indoor heat exchanger side pressure with the compressor side pressure to detect difference of pressure, respectively; and a step(S20) increasing displacement of the compressor correspondingly if at least one of the difference exceeds the set difference of pressure.
