Disclosed is a fuel cell structure comprising fuel cells, each of which contains an anode (1) and a cathode (2). Fresh air is admitted to the cathode inlet (KI) by means of a fresh air inlet (18, 19). A combustion device (16) is disposed between the anode outlet (AO) and the cathode inlet (KI) via an anode waste gas recirculation line (17) for post-combusting combustible residual components contained in the used fuel gas emitted from the anode outlet (AO), optionally in combination with fresh air admitted via the fresh air inlet (18, 19). The fresh air inlet (18, 19) comprises a first fresh air feeding pipe (18) connected to the combustion device (16) for optionally admitting fresh air to the combustion device (16) along with the used fuel gas, and a second fresh air feeding pipe (19) for admitting fresh air to the cathode inlet (KI) while bypassing the combustion device (16). The quantity of fresh air admitted to the combustion device (16) via the first fresh air feeding pipe (18) is preferably regulated in such a way that a temperature between 750 DEG C and 1400 DEG C, preferably between 850 DEG C and 1250 DEG C, is obtained in the combustion device (16) so as to accomplish a hot burner with the combustion device (16) in which fewer or no inert catalytic converters at all need to be used. |
