A process for producing a polymer liquid crystal composition exhibiting a desirable temperature dependence of circular polarization wavelength characteristics only by mixing together at least two raw materials of different weight-average molecular weights, the at least two raw materials consisting of at least two stiff rod-shaped polymers of different weight- average molecular weights having chiral side chains, the polymers exhibiting a molecular weight distribution, expressed by the ratio of weight-average molecular weight / number-average molecular weight, of more than 1.00 but 1. 25 or less and synthesized from the same molecule as a repeating unit, while controlling the weight-average molecular weight, number-average molecular weight and molecular weight distribution through mixing ratios.
