PURPOSE: Functional kimchi obtained by mixing selenium-enriched garlic with conventional kimchi ingredients such as salted chinese cabbage, hot pepper powder, fermented seafood juice or the like is provided. A method for producing the same is also provided. The functional kimchi has excellent anticancer, antioxidant and antiaging effects. CONSTITUTION: Functional kimchi is prepared using 0.1 to 10% by weight of selenium-enriched garlic, based on the total weight of kimchi ingredients. The selenium-enriched garlic contains 100 to 1,500ppm of selenium and is obtained by adding sodium selenate in the amount of 20mg/kg to garlic during culturing. For an example, 100 parts by weight of salted chinese cabbage is added with 1.4 parts by weight of the selenium-enriched garlic, 3.5 parts by weight of hot pepper powder, 0.6 parts by weight of ginger, 2.3 parts by weight of fermented seafood juice, 2.0 parts by weight of a green onion, 13.0 parts by weight of a radish and 1.0 parts by weight of sugar.
