METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR PREVENTING RESIDUAL IMAGE OF PLASMA DISPLAY PANELS AND PLASMA DISPLAY PANEL DEVICE HAVING THE SAME

PURPOSE: A method and apparatus are provided to prevent residual image of plasma display panel which occurred when a still image is displayed for a long time or a part of moving picture is displayed in high intensity for a long period. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for preventing residual image includes a memory(510), an average signal level calculator(520), a comparator(530), and a multiplier(540). The memory(510) stores an average signal level of each cell in the plasma display panel. The calculator(520) calculates average signal level of each cell, obtained from the previous picture frame stored in the memory to the present picture frame. The comparator(530) compares the image data with the calculated average signal level and outputs an attenuation factor corresponding to the difference therebetween. The multiplier(540) produces an output by multiplying the image data by the attenuation factor.
