The dimming function for an electrical lighting system is provided by a plug in unit that has an infra red sensor that responds to presence in a room. If the sensor interruption is less than 0.3 seconds the dimmer remains on. If greater then the dimmer function operates. The range of the infra red sensor is some 30 cm.
