PURPOSE: A bill counting machine having a function of discriminating different kinds of bills and spurious bank notes and a function of adding up different bills are provided to accurately discriminate different kinds and forgery of bills. CONSTITUTION: A magnetic sensor(12) senses the originality of bills. A counter sensor(14) counts bills. An ultraviolet sensor(15) senses forgery of the bills. A central control unit(32) displays the bills through a different-bill display unit(18) while counting the bills. An electrostatic capacitance sensor(10) senses the different kinds and forgery of the bills by using a peculiar total electrostatic capacitance value of each bill kind. A different-bill kind sensor(11) includes right and left PDA sensors, and senses the size of the bills. A color sensor unit(13) senses three primary colors of the bills for sensing the different kinds of the bills. The central control unit(32) integrates the sensed results for judging the different kinds and forgery of the bills.
