A portable data terminal (100) is provided with a short-range communication function, such as Bluetooth, which is subordinate to the main communication function, such as that for communicating via a cellular network. Among other terminals (200, 300) present in the neighbourhood of the potable data terminal, those conforming to a pre-set condition(s) are searched for establishing direct communication by the short-range communication function (140). A plurality of pre-set conditions may be stored (130) for selection by a user. The portable data terminal may, in particular, comprise imaging means. |
