The present invention concerns a chiral catalyst that can be used in the oxidative coupling of naphthol, characterized in that the said chiral catalyst is a complex between vandium and a Schiff base which is formed by a chiral amino acid and a formyl-biphenyldiol, wherein the chirality is induced by the chiral amino acid. The complex has following structure: wherein R is selected from the group consisting of benzyl, isopropyl, isobutyl and tertbuty; and the amino acid has R or S configuration. When the chiral catalyst of the present invention is used in the catalytically oxidative couplings of naphthols or their derivatives, optically highly pure binaphthyldiols or their derivatives can be obtained.
|
