Circular saw comprises a splitting wedge (12) and an oscillation protective hood (6). The splitting wedge is arranged on the housing (22) of the saw during operation of the saw independently of the pivot position of the oscillation protective hood. The splitting wedge is removably arranged on the housing outside a fixed part of the protective hood of the saw blade (8) via a manually and tool-free operated clamping mechanism (20). The oscillation protective hood has slits on its free ends only in a stop region (18). Preferred Features: The splitting wedge is clamped with a contact surface directly against a clamping surface (24) on the machine housing. The clamping mechanism consists of a tommy screw (32) or a tommy nut.
