The method involves monitoring the rotational behavior of the vehicle (14) wheels and the steering angle, deriving a reference vehicle speed from the rotational behavior of the individual wheels and comparing the variation of rotational behavior of at least one front wheel (20,21) with the reference speed with the steering angle approximately constant or increasing proportionately to detect a stable or unstable driving situation. An independent claim is also included for the following: (a) a device for stabilizing a vehicle.
