PURPOSE: A compatible device is provided to shorten the time and cost for system development, while allowing the maintenance to be performed through the use of the testing device. CONSTITUTION: A compatible device comprises a cam signal detection unit(213) for detecting the position of the cam shaft; a crank signal detection unit(209) for detecting the position of the crank shaft from the tooth of the target wheel; a long tooth detection unit(205) for detecting the long tooth from the crank signal detection unit; a program memory(215) including the first computing module for correcting a simulation crank signal during an engine acceleration, and the second computing module for correcting a simulation crank signal during an engine deceleration; an error detection unit(207) for generating error information by comparing the current crank signal output from the crank signal detection unit and the cycle of the simulation crank signal; and a control unit for selecting the first computing module or the second computing module, and performing a correction by varying the cycle of the simulation crank signal and an initialization of the correction signal in response to the reset signal.
