1,181,920. Controlling clutches. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. 20 Dec., 1968, No. 60836/68. Heading F2L. Automatic adjustment for wear &c. in a diaphragm or coil spring clutch is effected by a pawl-and-ratchet 18, 11, the pawl 18 being mounted on a pedal 10 and the ratchet sector 11 being freely mounted on a pin 13 and connected to the clutch release bearing by a cable or rod 14, any slack being taken by a spring 15, and the pedal being urged by a spring 21 to abut a stop 22 which has an extension 23 which abuts the pawl 18 to pivot it away from the ratchet teeth against a spring 20. As shown, the ratchet and pedal are freely mounted on the same pin 13. The spring 15 may be replaced by a constant load flat coil spring around the pin 13 to provide a constant pressure on the clutch release bearings with wear. |
