The drive has a stator unit and a rotor unit that move relative to each other. The stator unit has magnets (7) for producing a magnetic field in which the rotor is located and a U-shaped housing (1) with a lateral opening, two legs joined by a connecting leg (5) and magnets on the legs. The rotor (2) has at least one winding in a gap between the legs and a protrusion near the opening for attaching a load.
