1279453 Welding by fusion UNION CARBIDE CORP 2 July 1969 [12 Sept 1968] 33307/69 Heading B3R A MIG welding torch comprises a wire contact tube 14 which is unthreaded and is held in place by a resilient collet 7. The latter comprises externally coned sections 9 which are radially contracted to grip the contact tube by a locking member L threaded on to the collet. The collet 7 and the locking member L are provided with passages and ports for shielding gas distribution. The collet 7 is soldered, e.g. at 12, to a torch body B which has an insulating, e.g. rubber, sheath 5 and comprises a single or, as shown, separate passages 1, 3 for wire and shielding gas. The locking member L may be injection moulded or, as shown, comprise an outer shell 11, e.g. of stainless or any heat-treatable steel, an insulating member 15, e.g. of a silicone compound, and a body 13 threaded on to the collet 7, the parts 11, 15, 13 being secured together by a pin 20 of insulating material. The outer shell 11 is provided with a plurality of sections 17 to resiliently retain a pushed-in nozzle 19 of copper, ceramic or preferably, for electrical insulation, anodized aluminium. |
