FIELD: ferrous metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method comprises treatment of melt with carbon-containing component, particularly graphite product production waste in amount 0.008-0.016% of the weight of melt preliminarily subjected to vibrational grinding into main fraction 1-3 mcm, clad with paraffin, and molded in the form of graduated tablets. EFFECT: reduced volume proportion of free graphite, modified morphology, improved its distribution in moldings, increased surface hardness by 5-7 HRC units, reduced production expenses, and improved environmental condition. 2 cl, 1 tbl
