FIELD: organic chemistry, chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the improved catalytic method of ammoxidation of lower paraffins for preparing unsaturated mononitriles, such as acrylonitrile and methacrylonitrile. Method involves catalytic interaction of paraffin taken among propane and isobutane with molecular oxygen in gaseous phase by means of catalytic contacting reagents in reaction zone with the promoted vanadium- -antimony oxide catalyst wherein catalyst is subjected for heat treatment at temperature at least 780 C and wherein catalyst corresponds to empiric formula: VSbmAaMobDdOx wherein A represents one or some metals among: Ti, Sn, Fe, Cr and Ga; D represents one or some metals among: Li, Mg, Sr, Ba, Co, Ni, Zn, Ge, Nb, Zr, W, Cu, Te, Ta, Se, Bi, Ce, In, As, B and Mn; m = from 0.8 to 4; a = from 0.01 to 2; 0<b<0.0045; d = from 0 to 2; x is determined by degree of oxidation of presenting cations; and where in feeding the parent compounds are used in the molar ratio of paraffin to ammonia in the range from 2.5 to 16 and in the molar ratio of paraffin to oxygen in the range from about 1,0 to 10.
