The motor vehicle (1) lane following alarm has sensors (2) mounted on each side of the vehicle to detect the lane markings (4a,b) and connected to a computer (7) with an alarm. This operates when one of the sensors receives reflected light from a road lane marking. The sensors each have multiple emitters (21A,B) for light of different wavelengths and at receiver for each wavelength.
