Total air temperature sensor comprises a fluid intake (1) mounted on a contoured body and a conduit within the body that guides air towards a temperature sensitive element arranged within the conduit. The fluid intake has a surface that slopes relative to the main airflow direction, which is conducive to making any surface ice depositions fall off. Independent claims are also included for the following:- (a) a total air sensor with a temperature sensitive element in the form of a ceramic tube on which a coil of resistive wire is mounted; (b) and a sensor with boundary layer suction grooves extending transversely with respect to the flow direction.
